U-46 students recognized for high achievements

By Seth Hancock
The Board of Education in School District U-46 recognized a group of middle and high schoolers at its May 17 meeting.
Included were members of Bartlett’s Eastview Middle School Illinois Science Olympiad team coached by teachers Neal Ford and Heather Flick.
The team included seventh-graders Jediael Chintha, Tristan Combs, Luke Davis, Noah Fleck, Jake Hoelterhoff and Sydney Perkins as well as eighth-graders Chloe Curran, Frederick Lorek, Darsh Patel, Jai Patel, Krish Patel, Aanya Patel, Leo Positano, Aaditya Shah and Beverly Yu. The team had two alternates, seventh-graders Aarav Shah and Aydin Syed.
At a virtual competition last month, the Eastview team won the “A” division. The team also won the disease detectives, dynamic planet, fossils, machines and road scholar categories while taking second in water quality, third in circuit lab and fifth in crimebusters and anatomy.
“It was an amazing performance,” Ford said in a district press release. “Every student was highly motivated and worked hard to prepare for their events despite the circumstances and hardships encountered this year due to Covid-19.”
The high school students who were recognized were those who took first place in their categories in the HOSA-Future Health Professional competition which included over 8,000 students nationwide.
Tamara Aldabbagh, Riva Lakkadi, Devanshi Patel and Paras Shah of Bartlett High School won creative problem solving.
From South Elgin, Sakhee Thakkar won nurse-assisting and Ritu Patel won healthy lifestyle. Angeline Nato won researched persuasive speaking, Siya Patel state pin design and the team of Harshil Bhavsar, Krish Shah, Jesus Serrano and Vraj Patel the HOSA bowl for Elgin.
