Various expense proposals set for June 21 U-46 vote

  The Board of Education in School District U-46 is set to vote on $6.1 million in expenditure items at its upcoming June 21 meeting. The items were presented on Monday, June 7.
  The largest items are set to be split through education, operations and maintenance and transportation funds. Included is $2.5 million with Standard Life Insurance Company for life, long-term disability, critical illness and hospital indemnity insurance as well as $1.2 million with EyeMed Vision Care for vision insurance.
  From the transportation fund, the district is asking for $111,948 to convert its GPS from 3G to 4G with Tyler Technologies. To be paid for by the nation’s taxpayers through grant funds if approved, the district wants to spend $98,120 with Project Lead the Way (PLTW) for “robotics kits, hardware, sensors, and software,” the proposal states, for PLTW courses at Bartlett, Elgin and Larkin high schools.
  The remainder of items are from the education fund including $65,000 to hire an African-American Studies curriculum consultant, Kim Gallon.
  The district wants to spend $396,600 for network switches, $356,288 for Micro Focus software, $204,572 for Learning A-Z reading materials, $200,000 for the fingerprinting FIRM Systems, $189,917 with T-Mobile for cellular service, $170,850 for the Pear Deck presentation tool, $140,000 for Kami math materials, $138,510 for the EdPuzzle assessment tool, $115,500 for BlueStreak math intervention resources, $63,938 for ST Math intervention resources, $63,400 for Zoom and $33,240 for membership dues for the lobbyist group Illinois Association of School Boards.
  Three resolutions will also be voted on including one allowing participation in federal and state programs. Superintendent Tony Sanders said: “This allows the administration to accept basically the ability to move forward ahead without individual applications for grants coming forward to the Board of Education for approval.”
  A resolution authorizing the treasurer to make bond and interest payments as well as one to transfer $800,000 of interest earnings from the working cash fund to the operations and maintenance fund will be voted on.
