The Examiner U-46 News FeedU-46 preparing dates for rollout of new budget By Seth Hancock
School District U-46 is preparing for the 2021-2022 budget.
The Board of Education is set to vote on a resolution setting the display and public hearing dates for the budget at its next regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, July 19. The item was presented on June 21.
A tentative budget is expected to be presented on Aug. 23 with public display set for Aug. 24. The district plans a public hearing and board vote on the budget on Sept. 13.
U-46 consistently increases its spending and requests the largest taxing increases allowed under the law and has been on a trend of spending increases while enrollment has declined. The district suffered its largest single-year loss in enrollment in 2020-2021 losing 1,391 students (3.7 percent, falling from (38,014 to 36,623), and it was the sixth straight year of spending increases with enrollment declines.
Also set for a vote is a resolution approving of hazardous transportation area designations.
Superintendent Tony Sanders said it “confirms that the hazardous transportation area designations previously approved by the Illinois Department of Transportation still exist, and students that resided within the designated areas during the 2020-2021 school year were provided free transportation services.”
The list of locations retains 25 existing locations while adding 23 new locations, 12 of which are in locations within The Examiner’s readership area.
In Bartlett are two new locations each at Hawk Hollow, Liberty and Nature Ridge elementary schools as well as one at Centennial Elementary School.
