The Examiner U-46 News FeedU-46 Board of Education set to vote on proposals By Seth Hancock
The Board of Education in School District U-46 is set to vote on $4.4 million via two expenditure items at its upcoming meeting on Monday, Nov. 1. The items were presented on Oct. 18.
Issues with supply chain disruptions were discussed on both.
The district is asking for $4 million, from the food and nutrition fund if approved, for packaging materials. It is split between Revere Packaging ($1.5 million), Form Plastics Company ($1.3 million), Pressed Paperboard Technologies ($891,284) and Pathway Solutions ($308,340).
The district purchased new packaging machines recently and in response to a question from board member Dawn Martin, Bruce Phelps, director of business services, said: “In a prior board proposal, we brought forward to buy new machines. Now we’re bidding out the packaging that can fit those machines. Those new machines are giving us more variety to companies that can supply the packaging instead of one company.”
Asked by Sue Kerr, the board’s president, if there are any concerns with receiving the packaging, Phelps said: “We should not have a problem getting the packaging.”
Also included was a $372,987 (operations and maintenance fund) to replace four pickup trucks with Roesch Ford ($166,248) and three vans and a dump truck from National Auto Fleet Group ($206,739).
The proposal states that the board approved of the replacements in May, but there were delays in manufacturing. Kerr asked if the district will get the vehicles with this contract which Phelps said: “At this point, yes.”
