The items were expected to be approved on July 22, but a lack of a quorum created the need for the July 29 meeting.
The tentative budget projects to increase spending 26 percent, $681.1 million to $858.9 million, and revenue by 3 percent, $770 million to $792.2 million. The resolution set Aug. 6 as the date to display the proposed budget and Sept. 9 as a public hearing and final adoption date.
The resolution to sell property is for 410 East Streamwood Blvd., in Streamwood, formerly Streamwood Elementary School, which has not been in use since 2003.
The sale is to the Midwest Islamic Center for $1.1 million. The board approved of putting the property up for sale in June and set a minimum price of $1.1 million.
A resolution declaring serious safety hazards for student transportation was approved which includes 49 locations listed as hazardous areas. Students in those areas receive taxpayer-funded transportation.
The resolution states that the district must “provide free transportation for any student” who “resides one and one-half miles or more from his or her assigned school,” or for students within 1.5 miles of their school “where walking to or from school or to or from a pick-up point or bus stop would constitute a serious safety hazard.”
A resolution declaring the need to continue using temporary classrooms was approved. There’s a total of five single mobile classroom units and eight doubles at the same locations as previous years.
The single units will be located at Creekside, Harriet Gifford, Hillcrest, Lowrie and Washington elementary schools. There will be two double units at South Elgin High School and Century Oaks Elementary School as well as one at Hanover Countryside, Hillcrest, Lincoln and Lowrie elementary schools.
There were three additional resolutions approved including one to allow the transfer of interest earnings from the working cash fund to the tort and capital project funds, one to allow the district to participate in federal and state grant programs and one to allow the treasurer to make bond and interest payments.
