School calendar for year finalized in District U-46

  The school calendar for the 2025-2026 has been set in School District U-46 after the Board of Education voted 6-0, board member Samreen Khan was absent, to approve the calendar on Aug. 19.
  The calendar shows the first day of school being Monday, Aug. 11 (Monday, Aug. 18 for preschool) and the last day of school as Wednesday, May 20 if no emergency days are used.
  The calendar aligns with neighboring districts and will assist with several major construction projects coming up in the summer of 2026, an Aug. 5 memo stated.
  “It has been the now long-standing practice of School District U-46 for students to start school in the second full week of August,” the memo stated. “The proposed calendar continues this practice. Districts 300 (Carpentersville) and 303 (St. Charles) also are continuing the practice of starting during the second full week of August for the 2025-2026 school year. Students start on Tuesday, August 12th in District 300 and Wednesday, August 13th in District 303. We have arranged the calendar to end school as early as reasonably possible in May to allow for the many expected building construction projects that will be in full swing by the summer of 2026 to have full access to the buildings as early as we can.”
  Thanksgiving break will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 26 with students returning Monday, Dec. 1, Christmas break begins Monday, Dec. 22 with students returning Monday, Jan. 5 and spring break beginning Monday, March 30 and students returning Monday, April 6.
  There are 176 total instructional days for students and 185 teacher attendance days. There are nine institute days/non-attendance days.
  The first trimester ends on Dec. 19 and the second trimester on Feb. 13.
