The Examiner U-46 News FeedEastview teacher renders life-saving aid to student By Seth Hancock
Lainy Ramundo, a student at Eastview Middle School in Bartlett, said Jason Davids is one of her favorite teachers.
Not only is Ramundo thankful for Davids as a social studies teacher, but she is thankful for his life-saving actions recently when she needed the Heimlich maneuver performed on her.
“I’m incredibly lucky to have Mr. Davids as a teacher,” Ramundo said. “I believe God puts people in your life for a reason, and I am grateful Mr. Davids has been put in mine.”
Ramundo added: “Mr. Davids has been an amazing teacher and one of my favorites from the beginning of the school year. He is respectful to his students and has made me feel comfortable expressing myself and my viewpoints in our social studies class.”
After making sure Ramundo was fine, Davids went back to teaching a lesson on the American economy said Ramundo and he “checked on me throughout the day.”
“He even had me talk to my mom on the phone after school while I was in Robotics Club because he said ‘parents want to know their kids are okay,’” Ramundo said.
Ramundo said that she was trained in CPR over the summer but didn’t think she “would be the one who would have been dependent on someone else.”
“It shows how much Mr. Davids cares for his students by being trained to take care of us if a medical situation came about,” Ramundo said. “I am thankful he did.”
Davids was one of two School District U-46 employees honored for recently saving a student with the Heimlich maneuver at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, Feb. 6.
Eastview Principal Donald Donner said at the meeting: “I’d just like to say that not only is he a fantastic teacher, but you won’t find a greater human being. He’s an amazing person, and we can’t be more proud of Jason in what he did for our student and how proudly he represents Eastview Middle School and U-46.”
Along with Davids, Rosa Fernandez, a staff member at Channing Memorial Elementary School in Elgin, was also recognized for her life-saving actions.
Fernandez said a student was choking on two pennies and “it’s the mother instinct thing” that kicked in as she took the life-saving action.
