The Examiner U-46 News FeedU-46 Board approves pact changes, proposals By Seth Hancock
The Board of Education in School District U-46 unanimously approved a change to the district’s contract with administrators as well as $6.4 million in expenditure proposals on Monday, March 20.
The contract for administrators included some key changes outlined by U-46 CEO Tony Sanders who said the contract is reviewed yearly, but “rarely do we bring forward to the board proposed changes…. They usually just roll over year over year.”
For 10-month administrators, Sanders said that “instead of specifying the number of days an administrator works within the contract” it will now have a range of a minimum of 194 days and maximum of 239 days. Sanders will determine the number for each administrator.
If a contract is terminated “the administrator must request a hearing within five schools days from receiving the discharge notification” in order to dispute it.
Some changes in benefits for 12-month administrators include no more break days during spring and winter break and “instead of that they will receive vacation days in lieu of those break days.” Also there will be a reduction in paid sick leave from 14 days to 12 and personal days from four to three “due to TRS (Teacher Retirement System) requirements.”
Medical insurance premiums, starting in 2018, will be hiked from 10 to 15 percent which “aligns to other groups,” and for retirement benefits the district will provide “up to 5 percent matching contribution of the administrator’s salary or a maximum of $4,000 provided that the district is solvent and not in deficit.” The retirement plan in question, a 403(b), is an option for administrators.
There were also language changes removing superintendent for CEO.
The expenditure items approved included proposals with Amber Mechanical Contractors Inc. ($2.6 million), Mechanical Concepts of Illinois Inc. ($1.3 million), Riddiford Roofing Company ($1.2 million), Northwest Contractors Inc. ($931,899), F.J. Bero & Company Inc. ($350,000) and Workforce Software, Inc. ($43,148).
Also approved unanimously that evening was $8.6 million in itemized bills and reduction in force notifications for five teachers and an administrator.
Proposed that evening for a vote on Monday, April 10 is a $28,710 expenditure, which if approved will come out of the education fund, with Raptor Technologies which is an annual access fee for the visitor/volunteer sign-in software system.
A $1.3 million proposal with Laub Construction Inc. to replace bleachers and flooring at Elgin High School and Harriet Gifford Elementary School was pulled because of a potential mistake in the bid. The proposal will be resubmitted at the April 10 meeting.
