The top 2 percent of graduating seniors in School District U-46 were honored for their academic accomplishments as the Board of Education held a special meeting on Monday, May 8 at Elgin High School.
From The Examiner coverage area, there were 35 students.
Bartlett High School: Xander Apponi, Ivana Bozic, Erik Cook, Aishwarya Jois, Ami Patel, Dharma Patel, Arielle Pfeil, Jayam Shah, Purav Shah, Shil Shah and Alex Vetsavong.
South Elgin High School: GraceAnne Aldred, Emily Berry, Adele Bucinskas, Haley Follman, Walter Gulumian, Aaron Hernandez, Zoe Jacob, Molly Mehta, Sarah Mogytych, Grace Moreno, Brian Nguyen, Siya Patel, Patricia Ribay, Sominea Som and David Szymulewski.
Streamwood High School: Adam Bajorek, Darcy Brady, Andrea Greter, Jeriann Gumila, Megan Hodge, Drew Landrowski, Christopher Veltkamp, Andrew Wilson and Lukas Woerner.
In a district press release, U-46 CEO Tony Sanders said: “We couldn’t be more proud of these students and their dedication to education. We are looking forward to recognizing their accomplishments here in U-46 and wishing them well as they continue to excel in college and their careers.”
Also recognized that evening was Suzanne Johnson, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning, who was named the 2017 Kane County Administrator of the Year. Johnson has worked for the district for 20 years.
“Dr. Johnson repres ents the best in educational leadership. She is an educator who leads by example and is a role model to both students and faculty alike,” Sanders said.
“I am extremely proud to represent the entire U-46 community as the recipient of the award,” Johnson said. “I couldn’t have done it without the support of my colleagues who make every day in education special.”
