The Examiner U-46 News FeedU-46 fees for 2018-19 slated to remain same By Seth Hancock
Pending approval from the Board of Education, fees will remain largely the same in School District U-46 for the 2018-19 school year.
The fees were presented at the board meeting on Monday, Feb. 5. The board will vote on the fee structure at its Feb. 26 meeting.
Jeff King, chief operations officer, said “the only change was the reduction of the textbook” fee for driver education at the high school level. That fee will be reduced from $37 to $13.
Kind added that “food service pricing will stay the same for next year as well.”
For kindergarten, the fee will be $48 for half-day and $96 for full-day with no early discount available. If paid late, the fee is $58 for half-day and $116 for full-day.
Fees for elementary school, grades first through sixth, are $116, $96 if paid early and $136 if late. The Ignite Program is $266 or $246 with the early discount and $286 if paid late.
For the sixth and seventh grades, middle school, the fee is $162 ($142 early discount, $182 late) and for the Gifted Program there is an additional $150 fee “for incoming [eighth] grade students who elect to decline moving to their home school for the 2017-2018 school-term” according to the proposal. The athletic participation fee at the middle school level is $80.
High school fees are $240 ($220 early discount, $260 late) with an additional $150 fee for the academies. Along with the textbook there is a $300 behind-the-wheel fee for driver education, a parking permit is $100, athletic participation fee is $150 per sport ($200 for football), the activity fee is $40 and the basic yearbook is $45.
Central school program fees: Moving On ($140), Center House ($105) and SWEP ($50).
No specific dates have been designated yet, but the early discount will be given if paid prior to a May date and the late fee will be assessed if paid after an August date. No refunds are available unless a student is withdrawn prior to the first day of class, students registered after Jan. 1, 2019 will pay half the fee and online payment options are available.
Donna Smith, the board’s president, said “all my years, I don’t think I’ve ever heard any go down.” Smith has been on the board since 2001.
U-46 CEO Tony Sanders said: “I believe this is the fourth year in a row we’ve kept them relatively flat.”
