These seniors will be a part of this weekend’s graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 26 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates. Bartlett’s graduation kicks off the day at 8 a.m. while Streamwood is at 2 p.m. and South Elgin 5 p.m.
Also honored by the board were Bartlett junior Patrick Stephen and South Elgin junior Brian Kulpa who were presented with certificates of achievement at the board meeting on Monday, May 7.
Stephen created an app called Student Driver for smart phone’s which track student driver’s hours behind the wheel, and it was selected by the U.S. House of Representative’s Congressional App Challenge as the best in the 6th Congressional District in Illinois. The app has been downloaded over 400 times so far according to a district release, and Stephen traveled to Washington, D.C. last month to present his app alongside other winners.
“My take away from this has been the importance of sticking with something. You never know where an idea may lead to, or what you’ll come up with if you keep working at it,” Stephen said.
Kulpa showed his knowledge on a computer-controlled milling device, CNC machine, by winning a statewide competition put on by
SkillsUSA, and he will travel to Kentucky next month for a national competition. His classmates Cade Caruthers and Hailey Harden also performed well in the state with fourth and fifth respective finishes.
“This great showing by Brian, Cade and Hailey is an indicator that U-46 students are graduating from our Precision Manufacturing program with tangible skills that will help them succeed in the workplace and as they pursue post-high school education and training opportunities,” South Elgin teacher Russ Bartz said. “Brian has already received a job offer.”
