U-46 expenses include funds for SEHS stadium

  The Board of Education in School District U-46 unanimously approved a $1.5 million expenditure with Stuckey Construction Company, which will come out of the operations and maintenance fund, at its meeting on Monday, March 4 to add on to the athletic stadium at South Elgin High School.
  The winning bid was the lowest of four which ranged up to $1.6 million.
  South Elgin, which previously used Streamwood’s Millennium Field, opened its stadium in 2011. This expenditure will add lights and a press box as well as renovate the track which the proposal states is “displaying signs of atrophy and needs repair.”
  Currently there are no stadium lights and only a temporary press box.
  The work is scheduled to start in April with substantial completion by Aug. 30 allowing the South Elgin football team’s first scheduled home game on Friday, Sept. 13 against Elgin to take place under the lights.
  “The project will provide shelter for the coaches, press, and staff who work the games,” the proposal states. “It will also enable South Elgin High School to schedule games after sunset. In addition, this project stabilizes the track, improves the overall condition, and mitigates potential hazards associated with the uneven surface.”
  South Elgin’s boosters club had raised funds through private donations for the original construction of the stadium. In 2017, the U-46 board approved of a $1.6 million proposal from Bartlett High School’s boosters for bleachers, stadium lights and a press box at its new stadium which opened last fall.
  However, the Bartlett boosters paid $925,000 through private donations for that project and indicated it would eventually pay back the district for the taxpayer funds that made up the rest of that $1.6 million. No indication was made in the South Elgin proposal that its boosters club would refund the taxpayers.
  Also approved unanimously that evening were four proposals over $1 million: $3.4 million (education fund) with Dell EMC to purchase chrome books and AC adapters, $2.3 million (safety fund) with Hargrave Builders for lockdown hardware and fire alarm replacement at Elgin and Streamwood high schools and $2.2 million (education fund) also with Hargrave for library remodeling at three high schools (Bartlett, Larkin, South Elgin) and $1.1 million (education fund) with Mindsight for a firewall purchase.
  The board unanimously approved $574,000 (operations and maintenance fund) with Manusos General for renovation of the transportation office, $495,435 (education fund) with CDW Government for wireless access point licenses, $458,439 (education fund) with Lowery McDonell for furniture for the three library remodels, $120,600 (education fund) with Metronet for internet access at South Elgin’s Kenyon Woods Middle School and $117,754 (education fund) with Tyler Technologies for MUNIS software support and license renewal.
  By a 7-0 vote, the board also approved $5.1 million in itemized bills.
