Mug Shot Mania News20-Year-Old South Barrington Man Charged with Armed Robbery
On Thursday, November 12, 2015, the Bartlett Police Department arrested Wasif Vimawala, 20, of 37 Olympic Drive in South Barrington. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Bartlett Police Department charged him with two Class X Felonies for Armed Robbery, a Class 4 Felony for Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, and a Class A Misdemeanor for Unlawful Possession of Cannabis and Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer.
At approximately 2:45 pm, the Bartlett Police Department received the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred in a parking lot in the 100 block of Bartlett Plaza. The information learned from the victims, a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old male, alleged they were robbed by a man later identified as Wasif Vimawala. The robbery was the result of a meeting mutually arranged on a social network site to sell gym shoes. The victims alleged Vimawala displayed what they believed to be a black handgun inside a backpack and also threatened them before taking the shoes.
During the investigation, the Bartlett Police learned Vimawala drove away in a silver colored Audi. The vehicle was located on Stearns Road near Braintree Lane. The Bartlett Police Department alleged Vimawala resisted the police officers when they attempted to take him into custody. A black pellet gun and methylphenidate along with cannabis were found inside Vimawala’s backpack following the arrest.
On Friday, November 13, 2015, Vimawala was transported to the Cook County court facility located in Rolling Meadows to await his bail bond hearing.
