Aggravated Battery to Police Officer Arrest

On 120115 at 10:55 am, a St. Charles Police Officer made a traffic stop on a red 2000 Volkswagen Jetta. A license plate check showed the registration was suspended for mandatory insurance violation. The vehicle stopped on Kirk Road at Fox Chase Drive. The driver was identified as

Cheryl Wylde

Female, 24 years old

327 McClure, Elgin, IL

Wylde was found to have an active warrant for failure to appear on a burglary charge. Her driver’s license was also suspended. The officer told her to shut off her car because she had put the vehicle into gear and was attempting to leave. She turned the car back on and started to drive away. As she was starting the car, the officer reached in to unlock and open the door.  Wylde pulled on the door and drove away at a high rate of speed causing the door to slam on the officer’s arm. The officer received an injury to his elbow and wrist.

Wylde attempted to turn onto Majestic Oaks Drive to evade arrest. She took the turn too fast and crashed onto a median. Officers then took her into custody.

Wylde was processed at the St. Charles Police Department and then taken to the Kane County Jail for bond call. She was charged with:

Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer – Class 2 felony

Resisting or Obstructing a Police Officer – Class A misdemeanor

Fleeing/Eluding a Peace Officer – Class A misdemeanor

Driving While License Suspended – Class A misdemeanor

Suspended Registration/Non- Insurance

Operating Uninsured Vehicle

Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident

The officer had pain in his arm from the incident but is not expected to miss any duty time.
