Burglary/Criminal Damage Arrest, St. Charles Park District Buildings

On December 19, 2015, at 1:45 PM, officers responded to the Otter Cove Water Park and the concession building for the James O’Breen Park for a report of a burglary that was discovered. During the course of the investigation, officers discovered that three offenders had broken into the buildings on 121915 at 3:00 am and caused extensive damage throughout the interior. The offenders broke doors, windows, computer monitors, and printers. They broke the refrigerators in the concession area, destroyed the lightning detection system, and carved into the walls. These offices were also damaged and destroyed. Video surveillance captured the actions and investigators used that to identify the offenders. They were arrested and taken into custody on December 21, 2015.

All three were charged with Burglary and Felony Criminal Damage to Government Property. Each charge is a class 2 Burglary. They were taken to the Kane County Jail where they were held for bond call.
The St. Charles Park District is still working on assessing the total damage. A preliminary estimate has the damage over $32,000. The Thor Guard lightning detection system is valued at $8,000. Officials will work with representatives from each of the athletic associations to determine the value of the damage.
