On Sunday, March 20, 2016, at 10:37 pm, the St. Charles Police Department responded to the area of Randall Road at Main St. (IL RT 64) for a report of a fight in progress. When the officers arrived, they determined that a driver working for Uber had been attacked by the person he was giving a ride to. The 54 year old male driver had picked up the offender in Campton Hills and was taking him to an undetermined address in St. Charles. The offender was highly intoxicated and fell asleep in the back seat before giving the address of where he was to be taken to. When the driver attempted to wake him up, the offender became enraged and attacked the driver. The offender grabbed him by the face, pulling on his head, nearly causing him to veer off the road. The victim estimated his speed at about 45 mph when this happened. The offender was also punching and kicking the inside of the vehicle.
The driver pulled into the parking lot for a business at Randall at Main. The driver tried to get the offender out of his car. The offender pulled a 4 inch knife and tried stabbing the driver. The driver ran into the store and told the clerk to call 9-1-1. When officers arrived on the scene, the offender fled westbound on foot. He threw the knife into a retention pond. Officers then took him into custody.
