ELGIN MAN WHO FLED WHILE ON BOND
CONVICTED IN ABSENTIA OF CHILD SEX OFFENSE
ARREST WARRANT ISSUED
October 8, 2015
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of an Elgin man who apparently fled during his trial for sexually abusing a child.
Jaime Rodriguez, 50 (d.o.b. 2-12-1965), last address of the 200 block of South Aldine Street, Elgin, was last seen Sept. 14, 2015, during his bench trial at the Kane County Judicial Center. Rodriguez was free on $10,000 bond at the time.
The trial was to continue Oct. 1, 2015, in Courtroom 305 but Rodriguez failed to appear in court. A warrant for his arrest was issued while authorities unsuccessfully searched for him in the Elgin area.
The trial was completed Oct. 6, 2015, despite Rodriguez’s absence.
Circuit Judge Susan Clancy Boles today announced that she had found Rodriguez guilty of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.
During the trial prosecutors presented evidence that on Jan. 20, 2014, Rodriguez entered the victim’s bedroom and sexually abused her. The victim was younger than 18 years old at the time. She was living with Rodriguez’s family.
Judge Boles set Rodriguez’s next court appearance for 11 a.m. Nov. 13, 2015, in Courtroom 305 for motions, sentencing and forfeiture of bond. Rodriguez faces a sentence of between three and 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
In addition to the prison term, Rodriguez must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew Whitfield and Vincent Coyle.
Anyone with information about Rodriguez or his whereabouts should call Elgin Police Department at (847) 289-2700, the Kane County Sheriff at (630) 232-6840 or 911.
