And Now, For Something Completely Different - 02/16

By Rich Trzupek
  Not mine:
“The most terrifying force of death comes from the hands of men who wanted to be left alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing that forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know that the moment they fight back their lives as they have lived them, are over. The moment the men who wanted to be left along are forced to fight back, it is a form of suicide. They are literally killing off who they used to be. Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these men who wanted to be left alone, fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate, and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who are merely play-acting at politics and terror. True terror will arrive at these people’s door and they will cry, scream and beg for mercy… but it will fall upon the deaf ears on the men who just wanted to be left alone.” Author unknown.
Yes, that is rather dark, extreme and sexist, but dark, extreme and sexist rhetoric often has a purpose. I say that having so far apparently survived what President Biden told us would be “the winter of death.” Nothing over the top there.
As even Blue States begin to back away from mask mandates and vaccine card restrictions, President Dementia and/or his handlers would probably admit they employed at least a tiny bit of hyperbole in the “winter of death” messaging. Probably. Sometimes a little exaggeration is necessary to keep everyone safe, right? That’s kind of where their lib PR message masters are going at the moment. Personally, I much prefer unvarnished truths to the veneer of purposed messaging, but that’s just me. Both parties and all sides, unfortunately, do it.
The opening paragraph offered in this missive contains the same sort of hyperbole, at lease as far as current public protest about needlessly intrusive public policies related to COVID in the western world is concerned.
Many of us on the right are moved to finally say “enough is enough.” We perceive that left-leaning and left-falling-over elected officials (looking at you AOC!) are vastly inflating the supposedly continuing crisis in order to inflate their own positions and authority.
President Biden had a choice. He could stay in the center and count of the extreme left to stick with him whatever, or he could play to the extremist wing and hope that the center would stick around. He chose the latter. There is always a price to be paid for the choices we make.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and American President Joseph Biden are in the midst of attempting – assuming they wish to – learn that life-lesson.
Canadian truckers are too civilized to “…fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives.” Their protests have been overwhelmingly peaceful. They have engaged in civil disobedience of the sort that Gandhi would have endorsed, rather than the sort of organized, deadly terrorism that we experienced during the BLM-inspired protests during the summer of 2020.
As an amateur student of history, I feel obligated to contrast the way President Abraham Lincoln behaved in April 1865 and the way Prime Minister Justin Trudeau behaved in January 2022.
April 4, 1865: The Civil War still raged. Lee’s army had evacuated the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia two days hence. Lee was on the run, but by no means finished. Not yet. President Lincoln, against the advice of practically everyone in a position to give him advice trekked down to Richmond in the company of his young son Tad. He wanted – he needed – to take the pulse of the south at that moment and he didn’t give a crap about what doing so might translate into a personal risk for him. Lincoln then and always believed that he was elected to be the leader of the entire United States, not that portion that voted for him and/or agreed with him.
He went to Richmond on April 4, 1865 not because it was the safe thing to do, and in spite of the fact that it was an incredibly dangerous thing to do, but because he knew – without a doubt – that a real leader must grasp the views of those who disagree with them if they are truly to lead.
Confronted by passionate opposing forces, Trudeau responded in about as anti-Lincolnian way as one can image. Lincoln invited his opponents to engage in a dialogue. Trudeau denounced and vilified his opponents. Lincoln put himself at risk. Trudeau ran. Lincoln led. Trudeau hid.
We have had too much government for the last two years. Way too much. More and more of us are fed up and the claims that it’s all for our own good grow weaker by the day. Screw the masks and the mandates. It’s time to get busy livin’ again.
  Give ‘em hell truckers.
