Losers vs. Losers - 03/30

By Rich Trzupek
The war in the Ukraine reminds me of the Iran/Iraq war of the 1980s. I really hope that both sides find a way to lose.
The MSM, their masters in the Democrat party and a whole lot of Republicans are tripping over themselves to praise brave Ukrainian leadership that is, in their view, champions of liberty and democracy.
Few viewpoints could be further from the truth. The Ukraine is, and long has been, a nation ruled by thugs who have been more than happy to facilitate corruption within and without. Our current president’s on-camera admission that he blackmailed the Ukrainian government to knuckle under to his demands (quid pro quo anybody?) would be damning in a rational America. His son’s remarkably unqualified appointment to the board of directors of the Ukranian state petrochem giant, Burisma Holdings is corruption personified.
Does that cozy relationship matter? Of course not, sayeth the supposedly neutral left-wing web-sites like Fact Check, Vox, Snopes, etc. They carry the water for their liberal funders/masters, while making believe that their hearts are as pure as Ivory Soap. They’re just presenting facts! No personal leanings involved! They are fully capable of discerning fact from fiction, separating reliable, unbiased sources from unreliable sources with an agenda. They thoroughly understand all the technical nuances that are a bigger and bigger part of contemplating our increasingly technically nuanced world.
They can do that, right? That’s in their skill set, right? They can do that because they have degrees in journalism and communication and literature that grants them supernatural skills. Granted, you wouldn’t trust many of them to change out an electrical outlet in your home. But to vett the “experts” who lecture you on how electrical energy should be produced? Go no further! They’re the pros!
They know more about chemistry, for example, than an actual chemist like yours truly. They know more about environmental issues, given their entirely superficial understanding of the way that risk, the environment, economics and liberty intersect. For them, “business bad/gaia good” is all you need to know.
The worst thing that supposedly neutral left-wing web-sites like Fact Check, Vox, Snopes, etc., do is to provide much-needed cover for more or less openly left-wing organizations like CNN and MSNBC. Yes, MSNBC may try to toss independents a bone by offering “Morning Joe” Scarborough as a pretend conservative. In reality, Scarborough is a much a conservative as I am a body-builder. In each case expectations outpace actualization.
While visiting my ancestral home of Poland, President Dementia likened the Polish government’s acceptance of refugees from the Ukraine to his and/or his handlers open-border policies. We’re all in the same boat, right?
An honest media would have told you that Poland, along with Hungary, were roundly criticized for refusing to open their borders to the waves of millions of immigrants that Angie Merkel and others in the EU allowed to infiltrate their countries with nary a background check. The left and the MSM told us that Poland and Hungary were awful racists for doing precisely what President Trump did: Securing the borders of their nations.
Poland has not opened its borders to mobs of immigrants hoping to cash in by joining a welfare state. They absolutely refused to do so when most of their neighbors were losing their minds. Instead Poland opened its borders to innocent Ukrainians fleeing a corrupt war between a corrupt Ukrainian government and a corrupt Russian aggressor.
This war will be ending soon. It may end before these words go public. As ever, we should be grateful for the end of the bloodshed. There can be no winners in this conflict, only losers.
