How We Got Here - 07/20

By Rich Trzupek
Democrats and their mainstream media lackeys noisily predicted the doom of conservatism and the Republican Party six short years ago. That bit of hopeful prescience was focused on two hypotheses: 1) Americans who identified as minorities would continue to believe that liberal Democrats have their best interests at heart, and 2) that the liberal Righteous Crusade could always be – and must be – justified.
And so, in a remarkably short period of time, we’ve gone from “liberally officially” talking about equal access to sport funding among women and men to demanding that ideas about gender access are inherently divisive and destructive.
The questions “what is a woman” and “what is a man” generate ever increasingly blank stares from the liberal intelligentsia and their Democrat pals. For the most part, they claim to be unqualified to make such a dramatic decision, and thus any commentary from the right that may impact that kind of discussion is completely unwelcome.
Instead of identifying people as “women” or “men”, is there any problem with identifying people as “uterus bearing” and “penis bearing?” Yes, there is a (ridiculously small fraction) of the population whose chromosomal ID may not line up exactly with their possession of a uterus or a penis.
The current leftist narrative says that if you dare to differently identify uterus bearing and penis bearing people you are some sort of a bigot. Not only that, but if you dare to point out that there is a difference between uterus bearing and penis bearing people then you are supposedly putting a new class of humanity – one that insists on using language that ignores the possession of uterus’ and penis’ – in grave physical danger.
Like probably ever other actual human being who might read this column, I’ve interacted with people whose choice of clothing and apparent appearance does not line up with their actual biology in terms of having a uterus or having a penis. Has no lib ever heard of the glorious David Bowie? Like most probably every other actual human being who might read this column, I have never and continue to never give a rat’s ass about particular personal details.
I don’t care about the pigmentation of your skin. I don’t care about your faith in a Creator or lack thereof. I don’t care how you achieve sexual satisfaction, so long as doing so does not harm your partner(s). I don’t care if you’re ridiculously rich, dirt poor or anywhere in between. And there is perhaps nothing I care less about than how you dress, how you talk, or about the pronouns you want me to use when talking to you or the pronouns you use when talking to me.
Pronouns are model numbers, not serial numbers. I don’t give one-tenth of 1 percent about model numbers. Serial numbers are all that matters. When it comes to human relationships, serial numbers are unique, incredibly informative and full of growth potential. Model numbers are a lazy, pretentious dead end.
So how did we get to this level of ridiculousness? Just five years ago the liberal MSM and their Democrat task-masters confidently predicted that changing demographics in America meant that voters of particular ethnic backgrounds and skin pigmentations would flock to the left and render conservatives and the GOP impotent.
It hasn’t worked out that way.
The big problem for the left is that they won. It’s increasingly difficult to claim that ordinary Americans, of any political bent, make everyday decisions based on ethnic backgrounds or skin pigmentation. The left continues to try, but the self-interested bull-crap that Al Sharpton tries to sell doesn’t come close to comparing with the moving, divinely-inspired messages that Martin Luther King delivered.
The left – at some level – recognizes this. When you’re reduced to defining so-called racism in terms of “micro-aggressions” and unconscious behaviors, you’ve lost the argument. The average person may not always recognize BS from a distance, but they’ll eventually take note when the stink gets close.
And so the Dems and the MSM have staked out new ground. They’ve climbed a hill that they know the GOP and most conservatives will never climb: The liberal fortress of solitude where gender isn’t connected to biology and where the certainty of biology gives way to the fluidity of perception.
The majority of Americans may not be brilliant, or more properly may not have the time or inclination to express their inherent brilliance, but they’re a whole lot more clever than to swallow this kind of nonsense. That’s why the demographics have and will continue to move so drastically to the right. Americans of all flavors desire justice and equality, not senseless, purposeless and prurient division.
