Pair of proclamations issued by District U-46

  The Board of Education in School District U-46 issued a pair of proclamations recognizing American Education Week and Education Support Professionals Day at its meeting on Monday, Nov. 16 which was held electronically due to COVID-19 regulations.
  American Education Week ran between Nov. 16 and Nov. 20. Sue Kerr, the board’s president, said the district employs over 2,000 teachers and asked the public, parents and students to thank teachers.
  “Teachers have shown their dedication and flexibility in meeting the continuing demands of the pandemic, collaborating on the development of new district instruction models, learning and implementing instruction with new technology, updating their approach to engaging students, distributing supplemental supplies and materials, calling families, checking in on student attendance, making referrals for support services and much, much more,” Kerr said.
  U.S. President Donald Trump also issued a proclamation recognizing the week and said this was the 99th anniversary dedicating the week.
  “Education empowers students of all ages to reach their full potential and plays a fundamental role in developing a strong workforce and informed citizenry,” Trump said. “Our Nation is currently enduring an unprecedented academic year, but our commitment to the safe reopening of schools and the expansion of school choice programs nationwide remains steadfast.”
  Education Support Professionals Day was Wednesday, Nov. 18 and Kerr said U-46 employs over 1,600 assistants, bus drivers, food service workers, operations staff, paraprofessionals and secretaries.
  “U-46 support staff members not only lend their special skills and talents to the efficient operation of the school system, they also have played a significant role in the district’s response to the challenges posed by COVID-19,” Kerr said.
