District U-46 picks new student board advisors

  The Board of Education in School District U-46 approved of the CEO’s Student Advisory Council’s pick for the next student advisor to the board at its meeting on Monday, April 23.
  Jackson Teetor was selected as the next student advisor and Isabella Cwik as his alternate, both currently juniors at Larkin High School. Teetor will be replacing outgoing student advisor Casey Pearce, a senior at Bartlett High School.
  South Elgin High School student Mahima Dave and Larkin student Alexis Pluss, both on the CEO’s Student Advisory Council, described the process for selecting candidates.
  Pluss said the process was “completely student driven.” She said high school principals ask their own student advisory committees to submit candidates from their schools, and ultimately eight candidates were forwarded on to the CEO’s Student Advisory Council with two each from Bartlett, Larkin, South Elgin and Streamwood high schools.
  Of Teetor and Cwik, Dave said: “Either of them would be an excellent addition to the board.”
  Dave said of Teetor that he was “very passionate for Larkin and School District U-46 but expresses his deep passion for social justice, the power of education and the right to express ones voice politically.”
  In an essay written for the selection process, Teetor said his two most important issues are “arts in all levels of education” and college readiness.
  Teetor said at the meeting he was “super excited to be joining the board” and “I like to have my voice heard, and I like to have everyone’s voice heard.”
  Pluss said of Cwik that she was an “intelligent and hard working student” and “uniquely gifted to not only serve but also lead.”
  Cwik said she was “truly filled with so much gratitude” and it was “such an important and pivotal moment” in her life.
  “I love this district and what it stands for with diversity, and being in front of you is truly a humbling moment,” Cwik said.
