Insufferable - 12/23/15

By Rich Trzupek
Back when he first ran for President in 2008, Barack Obama portrayed himself as the man who could unite America – a middle-of-the-road kind of fella who would bring us all together is one big, happy utopia of his creation. That line of patter fooled a lot of people who should have known better, including a fair number of conservatives like Christopher Buckley.
Halfway through term two, Obama has long ago abandoned any pretense of working towards compromise. “Compromise” in Barack Obama’s world means that you agree with him. Period.
But, as of late, the arrogance of the President has reached a new pitch, a shrill stridency that appears to be willfully offensive. It is as if, with no more elections to win, the contempt with which he holds views contrary to his own, and the people who hold them, is oozing out of every pore.
His reaction to the shooting at the Planned Parenthood office in Colorado Springs a few weeks ago gave the Prez another chance to talk down to his ideological opponents. “Enough is enough” he said, calling for stronger gun control measures in the US.
It’s a liberal panacea that will never come true, but how the left loves the fantasy. And it won’t happened for a couple of reasons. Reason one: Second Amendment. Reason two: supply and demand.
Let’s expand on reason two. Like it or not, we live in a nation where a lot of people have guns. Some of these people are bad people who should not have them. However, those bad people don’t give a crap about following the law, so they’ll get their guns somehow.
Cripes, even if you shut down every firearms factory and dealer in the country, guns would pour over the borders. A government that can’t stop illegal immigrants from pouring over the border is hardly going to be able to stop them from toting a piece when they do.
But, what I found most offensive is Obama’s selective outrage. As a Catholic and as a person of conscience, I am opposed to abortion, but like the vast majority of my co-religionists, I found the Colorado Springs shooting abhorrent and my prayers go out to the victims and their families.
But, I have a hard time understanding how the President can be so outraged about these killing, but appears to have zero interest in babies being sold for parts. Legal or not, the irrefutable truths that the Center for Medical (CMP ) Progress videos exposed should sicken any decent person.
Yet that part of the story appears to mean nothing to our commander in chief, other than giving him an opportunity to wag his finger at the CMP and blame them for exposing Planned Parenthood’s disdain for life as the cause of the shooting.
Because, you know, if CMP would just shut up and let Planned Parenthood sell baby parts without making such a fuss, everything would be both peachy and keen.
This is the same organization, by the by, that claimed it wasn’t making a profit on selling baby parts, but was rather just covering its expenses. Yet, last month Planned Parenthood announced a policy change, whereby they say they won’t accept money for baby parts. So perhaps they really don’t have any “expenses” to cover?
Everyone, including the President of the United States, should be disgusted and upset when three innocent civilians are gunned down in cold blood. But the lack of compassion for the millions of innocents murdered in this country is breathtaking and deeply, deeply troubling.
Newt Gingrich once said that he understands the abortion is the law of the land, but he believes that the one goal we could all rally around is to have the kind of a nation where nobody would choose to have one. Would that President Insufferable understand the wisdom of those words.
