Burglary to Motor Vehicle Arrest

On November 30, 2015, St. Charles Police Investigators were notified of burglary suspect who was in the parking lot for XSport Fitness, looking into vehicles parked in the lot. Another police department has this suspect under surveillance for car burglaries. Detectives watched as

Nicholas S. Castiglia

Male, age 29 years old

868 Woodhill Dr, Carol Stream, IL

broke the window on a Pontiac Vibe. Castiglia reached into the car and took a bag from inside the vehicle. When officers converged on Castiglia, he fled the area in a red Chevrolet Express Van at a high rate of speed.  Officers followed at a safe distance. Castiglia stopped at a McDonalds, 453 Redington Dr, South Elgin and got out of the van, unware that he was still under surveillance. Detectives took him into custody in the parking lot without incident.

Castiglia was taken into custody and processed at the St. Charles Police Department. He was taken to the Kane County Jail for bond call, held on December 2, 2015. He was charged with the following:

Burglary – Class 2 felony

Possession of Burglary Tools – Class 4 felony

Criminal Damage to Property – Class A misdemeanor

The St. Charles Police Department was assisted by the Downers Grove Police, South Elgin Police, and the Kane County Sheriff in this case. There have been several recent car burglaries at this location and investigators are looking into whether these are all related.

The St. Charles Police Department reminds people to make sure their vehicles are locked and any valuables are kept out of view to reduce the chance of becoming a target.
