Eviction Incident

On 1/5/16 at approximately 8:30am a Kane County Sheriff’s Deputy was at a residence in the 600 block of Forrest Ave in Elgin to conduct a court ordered eviction.  A male later identified as, Piotr Dutkiewicz, exited the house and put an item on the ground and said “bomb”.  The item appeared to be a large battery with wires taped to it. He was immediately taken into custody. The other party at the home, the ex-girlfriend of Dutkiewicz, exited the residence without incident.  A member of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad responded to the residence and quickly determined the suspicious device was not real.  Deputies finished the eviction with no further issues.

Defendant:  Piotr Dutkiewicz male DOB 2/20/64 of the 600 block of Forrest Ave Elgin Il was charged with:

  • Disorderly Conduct a class 3 felony
  • Threatening a Public Official a class 3 felony

The charges against Dutkiewicz are not proof of guilt.  A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the State’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

On 1/5/16 at approximately 4:45pm Kane County Sheriff’s Office arrestee Piotr Dutkiewicz was found unresponsive in the bathroom of the booking area of the Kane County Adult Justice Center.  Officers and medical staff immediately began life saving measures.  He was transported to Delnor Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating the incident. It does not appear any foul play was involved.

Earlier in the day Piotr was arrested by KCSO deputies during an eviction at his residence.  Piotr had been charged with two felonies but was being processed and had not yet been to bond call on the charges.
