Elgin man who fled While on bond sentenced in child sex abuse case

ARREST WARRANT ISSUED

January 29, 2016

A former Elgin man who failed to attend part of his own trial for sexually abusing a child he knew and who is wanted on a warrant has been sentenced to prison.

Jaime Rodriguez, 50 (d.o.b. 2-12-1965), last address of the 200 block of South Aldine Street, Elgin, was last seen by authorities in September, was sentenced Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, by Circuit Judge Susan Clancy Boles to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. In addition Rodriguez was ordered to
forfeit $7,500 in bond money.

Rodriguez was convicted Oct. 8, 2015, by Judge Boles of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.

Rodriguez was last seen Sept. 14, 2015, during his bench trial at the Kane County Judicial Center. Rodriguez was free on $10,000 bond at the time. The trial was to continue Oct. 1, 2015, in Courtroom 305 but Rodriguez failed to appear in court. A warrant for his arrest was issued while authorities unsuccessfully searched for him in the Elgin area.

The trial was completed Oct. 6, 2015, despite Rodriguez’s absence.

During the trial prosecutors presented evidence that on Jan. 20, 2014, Rodriguez entered the victim’s bedroom and sexually abused her. The victim was younger than 18 years old at the time.

In addition to the prison term, Rodriguez must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew Whitfield and Vincent Coyle.

Anyone with information about Rodriguez or his whereabouts should call Elgin Police Department at (847) 289-2700, the Kane County Sheriff at (630) 232-6840 or 911. Once Rodriguez is returned to custody he will be sent directly to prison.
