Progressive Peace - 09/23

By Rich Trzupek
Interesting world progressives live in. It kind of resembles reality, but only vaguely. The most interesting and Orwellian disconnect involves that aspect of life we used to call “civility.”
As interested as the left is in policing social media to ensure that nobody gets their feelings hurt, they apparently have little interest in having actual police making sure that people don’t get physically hurt. We’re now at one hundred days and counting of continual rioting in Portland, while Mayor Ted “don’t call me Nero” Wheeler continues to fiddle.
I’m sorry, did I say rioting? That’s obviously a racist description. I meant to say “mostly peaceful protests with occasional disruptions that are mostly the result of law enforcement provocations’. (I sound just like a real journalist!)
The death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg provides new motivation for even more mostly peaceful protesting by the lunatic left. Threats to burn down the Reichstag – er, Senate – should its members approve a presidential nominee to replace Ginsburg would have been laughed off as hysterical hyperbole even a year ago. No more. The left is more and more dominated by a very, very angry set of spoiled children and they behave as angry spoiled children do: they act out.
It’s sadly ironic that the progressive crowd has been so obsessed by the supposed danger that gun-toting, Bible-thumping conservative Americans represent, yet they themselves resort to violence at the drop of a hat when they can’t get their way. And yes, I am lumping the left into one big ball of goop. While not every progressive is personally violent these days, the number of progressives actively speaking out against the use of violence is pitifully small.
The point has been made, and will continue to be made, that the GOP majority in the Senate should adhere to its previous decision not to approve a Supreme Court nominee in an election year. It’s a silly argument.
If we had a Senate controlled by the Democrats that had the opportunity to approve a Democrat president’s nominee, does anyone believe they would fail to do so? The whole point of having a majority in a legislature is to use that majority in a manner consistent with the party’s goals for the nation.
It should also be noted that the Dems would not be in this uncomfortable position if a dim-witted, short-sighted Harry Reid had not exercised the nuclear option in 2013. As is often the case in life, you reap what you sew.
So where does this leave us in the mess that is 2020 America? I don’t know about you, but I know where the left’s bloodlust has left a Nebraska Marine who was vilified for defending his bar and his person from the mob: dead.
Back in May, a “mostly peaceful” mob in Omaha was smashing windows and shoving people around at Jake Gardner’s Hive and Gatsby’s bar. After reviewing surveillance footage, Douglas Attorney Don Kleine described what happened next:
Gardner came up, asking, "Who did that? Who pushed my dad?" Someone was heard in the video saying, "he has a gun on him," referring to Gardner. Kleine draws attention to the fact that windows are seen broken out of the bar.
Kleine said the video shows a group of people surrounding Gardner, tackling him and Gardner firing two warning shots. Kleine said Scurlock jumps on Gardner and the bar owner fires another shot, fatally wounding Scurlock.
Kleine said Gardner is heard saying, "Get off me, get off me, please get off me," before the final shot is fired.

Kleine declined to prosecute Gardner for what was clearly a case of self-defense. That did not set well with progressives, who pressured Kleine into appointing a special prosecutor anyway. Gardner, facing an expensive legal battle, started a Go Fund Me page, which the site promptly shut down.
Gardner, who fled the state in the face of death threats, took his own life yesterday. He was 38.
