The Examiner U-46 News FeedSouth Elgin’s Johansen to take District 94’s top post By Seth Hancock
Kurt Johansen has announced that he will not be returning as principal at South Elgin High School for the 2024-2025 school year after accepting the top post at West Chicago Community High School District 94.
D94 recently announced that Johansen would be named its next superintendent, and Johansen made an announcement to South Elgin High School families last week that he would not be returning. Johansen had been principal at South Elgin since the 2020-2021 school year.
“I am grateful for the four school years working alongside you in supporting our communities,” Johansen wrote. “Together, we have been able to persevere through unprecedented challenges and tragic losses, but through it all, we managed to find the strength to come together for each other, our students, and the greater South Elgin Community. I am grateful to have been a small part of the STORM Family over the past four years, and I will cherish the relationships that have evolved during this time.”
Johansen added: “I will continue to serve as the principal of South Elgin High through June 2024 and will finish the school year alongside our teams, ensuring a strong close of the year and supporting the transition of the next leader for our South Elgin High community.”
The D94 announcement stated Johansen would officially assume the role of superintendent on July 1.
Prior to becoming principal at South Elgin High School, Johansen had been the assistant principal at Glenbard East High School in Glenbard District 87 since 2013, according to a School District U-46 press release in 2020. He previously was a dean of students at Glenbard East.
Johansen began teaching at East Leyden High School in Leyden High School District 212 in 2003.
U-46 currently lists four principal openings, including South Elgin High School as well as three elementary schools (Harriet Gifford, Lowrie, Hanover Countryside).
