The Examiner U-46 News FeedBills, expenses ratified by U-46 board of education By Seth Hancock
The Board of Education in School District U-46 voted 6-0, board member Veronica Noland was absent, on $413,020 in expenditure proposals at its meeting on Monday, Feb. 26.
The largest proposal was $148,960, from the education fund, with Corwin to send “up to 40 team members,” the proposal states, to the Visible Learning Annual Conference from July 8 to July 11 in San Diego.
“The Visible Learning Conference is a four-day conference created to bring together teams of educators to explore the theme of Quality Implementation to enact the research,” the proposal states.
Costing $107,543 (education fund), a three-year contract renewal with Raptor Technologies for the district’s visitor management system was approved.
The board approved $88,000 in funding for the Alignment Collaborative for Education (ACE).
ACE, comprised of business and government entities with a stated purpose to serve U-46, was founded in 2013 with an original promise that it would be fully funded through private donations. But U-46 taxpayers continue to be the largest individual funders of ACE.
Costing $68,517 (education fund), the board approved a contract renewal with the AVID Center. AVID, or Advancement Via Individual Determination, has been offered in the district since the 2009-2010 school year as a “nonprofit college and career readiness system designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college,” the proposal states.
Also approved by a 6-0 vote was expenses, not-to-exceed $2,500, to allow board members to attend the Illinois Association of School Boards’ (IASB) Board Presidents’ Academy on June 15 in Naperville. The IASB is a taxpayer funded lobbyist organization for government-run schools.
This covers the $199 registration fee for any board member who attends as well as “travel including meals and lodging,” a memo from Evelyn Bevins, assistant to the superintendent, stated.
Also approved by a 6-0 vote was $45.3 million in itemized bills.
