The City of St. Charles is located in Kane County, approximately 35 miles west of Chicago mid-way between Aurora and Elgin. It is the northernmost town of the area known as the Tri-Cities of the Fox Valley, which also includes Batavia and Geneva. All three straddle the beautiful Fox River.

Founded in 1834, St. Charles enjoys a rich history and flavorful culture. Today 28,000 people reside in the city where the median age is 37 and the average household income is estimated at $69,424 and $82,828 for an average family household income.

St. Charles has a large mixture of homes in all price ranges to fit every income level. There are many small homes selling in the $100,000 to $119,000 price range as well as luxury estate homes selling for more than a million dollars. The average price home is approximately $311,406. The median price for apartment rent is estimated at $797 per month.

Whether for business or pleasure, you're never far from convenient transportation by land or air. State Routes 64, 38, 31 and 25 serve commuters coming into and out of St. Charles; Route 64 runs east-west through the center of the city. Interstate highways I-88 and I-90 are easily and quickly accessible from St. Charles. Randall Road and Kirk Road, both north-south county highways, make access to interstates easy. O'Hare International Airport in Chicago is a 50-minute drive from St. Charles, Midway Airport about an hour. The Metra commuter rail station is 10 minutes from the city center in Geneva.

Once a recreational airfield, the DuPage Airport in West Chicago, contiguous to St. Charles' east side between Routes 38 and 64, is today a thriving corporate airport that generates $231 million a year for the local economy by bringing 20,000 people per month through its facilities. More than 215,000 aircraft land and take off from DuPage Airport each year.

More than 1,600 businesses employ over 24,000 people. The National Trust named St. Charles as a "Great American Main Street Award" winner in 2000 for Historic Preservation for having one of the top downtown revitalization programs in the nation.
