The Examiner U-46 News FeedDistrict U-46 poised to renew IHSA membership By Seth Hancock
The Board of Education in School District U-46 was presented with membership renewals in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) at its meeting on Monday, March 18.
The renewal forms will be voted on at the upcoming Monday, April 8 meeting.
Included were membership renewal forms for all five high schools (Bartlett, Elgin, Larkin, South Elgin, Streamwood) signed by their respective athletic director. Superintendent Suzanne Johnson said the forms must be submitted by June 30.
“It is time again for your school to renew its membership in the Illinois High School Association,” the membership form states. “For the 2024-2025 school term, IHSA membership will not require payment for membership dues or state series entry fees per action of the IHSA Board of Directors.”
The form adds: “Your school may renew membership in the Illinois High School Association by confirming that your school continues to be Recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education and by certifying that your Board of Education/Governing Board has voted to adopt and abide by the Constitution, By-laws, Terms and Conditions, and Administrative Procedure, Guidelines, and Policies of the Association for the 2024-25 school term.”
The IHSA governs high school athletics in the state as well as several activities. There are 15 boys championship series and 17 girls championship series offered by the IHSA as well as nine activities listed with state championship series.
“The purpose of the Illinois High School Association is to provide leadership for the development, supervision and promotion of good sportsmanship in interscholastic competition and other activities in which its member schools choose to engage,” the IHSA website states. “Participation in such interscholastic activities offers eligible students experiences in an educational setting which provide enrichment to the educational experience.”
